Welcome to World Obstacle Course Racing League

The World’s First Totally Inclusive Unbiased OCR League

Everyone is welcome
Every race is welcome
Everywhere in the world

Multiple leagues capturing the Competitive, the Fun, & the Creativity that is unique to the Best Sport in the World

What we believe we have created is a competitive, fun & creative way to bring a little balanced competition to Obstacle Course Racing.  We know that some days you could race for Fun (Fun Runners) & other days, you will be racing hard …. against yourself & everyone else (Trophy Hunters).

We wanted to build something for everyone.

As racers ourselves, we know that every race is different: the weather, the terrain, the obstacle designs …. all can make a massive difference to the race …. that is why we love it! No two races are the same.

Our different Leagues are designed to help you measure, record & share your performances whether you are chasing trophies or running for fun.

Our Leagues look at your average OCR Speed (see below) and various other different Points and Categories depending on whether you are running for fun or chasing a better position.

We have initially designed the following Leagues:

  • The WOCRL Championship – For those who are looking to see who is the best based on their Top 3 results.
  • The Trophy Hunters League – For all those who were looking to push themselves towards the podiums.
  • The Fun Runners League – For all those that entered the race for fun, for a laugh, for some sport, for the mud, for a challenge.
  • The Community League – There are so many excellent OCR Communities out there & a little inter-community competition has to be a good thing.
  • The Race Challenge League – For all to see how the different races were rated by the participants in terms of the challenge presented by the obstacles, the terrain & the weather.

We believe that OCR is one of the last true sports in terms of fair play & sportsmanship …. let’s make it our goal to keep it that way!

We have created, after much research, trial & error & a good few muddy kms, our own formula which gives an Average OCR Speed Per Kilometre/Mile for the event!

This calculation uses your Hero Rating (see below). Your Average OCR Speed takes your normal average speed (NAS) and multiples it by your Hero Rating percentage i.e. The person who completes 100% of the obstacles & has a slower NAS than a person who completes 90% of the obstacles, should be rated higher in terms of an Obstacle Course Racer!

Your Hero Rating! This is the number of obstacles you have faced against the number of obstacles you have completed.

Available Performance Filters

You will be able to breakdown your performances as the months go by, by one, some &/or all of the following:

  • Overall
  • Age – Group
  • Gender
  • Your OCR Community
  • Type of Runner (Fun Runner/Trophy Hunter/Community)
  • Distance (Short, Standard, Mid, Long, Ultra)
  • Country of Origin (i.e. Are you the fastest French person?)
  • Country of Race (i.e. Are you the fastest in the U.K races?)
  • Our unique Points system which is for both Fun Runner or Trophy Hunter

OC Racers need a full range of skills, focus, dedication and attitude & we have tried to capture all of these to bring a fair & balanced League ….

…. for example, if you cross the line first but only complete 50% of the obstacles, does that mean you are a better racer than the second place runner who completed all of the obstacles? We have developed these Leagues to help to sort this out!

2. The Different Leagues

We have different Leagues for you to enjoy:

  • The WOCRL Championship
  • The Trophy Hunters League
  • The Fun Runners League
  • The Community League
  • The Race Challenge League

A little more info:

  • The WOCRL Championship – For those who are looking to see who is the best based on their Top 3 results.
  • The Trophy Hunters League – For all those who were looking to push themselves and others.  If you raced, we suggest you choose “The Trophy Hunters League”, which gauges your performance improvements against others as well as your participation.
  • The Fun Runners League – For all those that entered the race for fun. If you were there to just have a great day out, then choose “The Fun Runners League” and add to your points as a lover, participant and dedicated follower of mud, fun & friends.
  • The Community League – There are so many excellent OCR Communities out there & a little inter-community competition has to be a good thing.
  • The Race Challenge League – For all to see how the different races were rated by the participants in terms of the challenge presented by the obstacles, the terrain & the weather.

3. The Different Personal Outputs

  • Your Personal Trophy Hunters History – A list of every race you took part in as a Trophy Hunter.
  • Your Personal Fun Runners History – A list of every race you took part in as a Fun Runner.
  • Your Personal WOCRL Output – The details of your Top 3 scoring races making up you WOCRL Championship points
  • Your Personal Fun Runner Championship Output – Your yearly & monthly Fun Runners “stats” collated & counted.

4. How It Works

Once you have registered, you will need to send your Race Stats to us via our automated & easy-to-use app. This you can do straight after the event & the system will update immediately!

We need just a few pieces of information, some of which are automated and pre-filled:

  • Race Organiser
  • Race Name
  • Fun Runner or Trophy Hunter
  • Your Entry Type
  • Your Overall Recorded Time
  • How Your Time Was Recorded
  • The Number of Laps You Completed
  • The Number of Obstacles Failed
  • Your Obstacle, Terrain & Weather Rating

We will calculate the rest from there!

No data, no points!

If you complete multiple races i.e. Spartan Sprint, Super & Beast, then we will need three form entries.  We need one submission per race you enter.

Fun Runner or Trophy Hunter – This is to allow us and you to identify the different attitudes. If you entered as a Fun Runner, we will NOT count your Overall, Age Group &/or Gender Position.

Choose Solo/Pair/Team/Relay – Only events where you participate as a “Solo”  count towards your individual League (Pair/Team/Relay are being worked on currently).

5. Detail On The Data Required

  • Race Organiser – i.e. Spartan Races/Nuclear Races
  • Race Name – i.e. Sprint/Oblivion
  • Fun Runner or Trophy Hunter
  • Your Entry Type – Solo/Pair/Team/Relay
  • Your Overall Recorded Time – Hours, Minutes & Seconds
  • How Your Time Was Recorded – Official Race Timing/Garmin/Polar etc – See Further Notes Below
  • The Number of Laps You Completed – Automated For Fixed Lap Events/Open for Limitless Events
  • Distance Recorded In (KMS/Miles) – See Further Notes Below
  • Total Distance Recorded – Your Own Recorded Distance Via Your Personal Recording Device
  • The Number of Obstacles Failed – See Further Notes Below
  • Your Overall, Age Group & Gender Position – Your Positions In The Event, Not In The WOCRL
  • Your Obstacle, Terrain & Weather Rating – See Further Notes Below

Distance Categories:

    • Short = Upto 5KMS
    • Standard = 5KMS > 10KMS
    • Mid = 10KMS > 20KMS
    • Long = 20KMS > 45KMS
    • Ultra = 45KMS +

If you enter a race, stating you wish to complete 3 laps i.e. (Nuclear Races – Oblivion – 3 x 12KMS laps), the distance you complete overall will be the value used in the distance category.

The Number of Obstacles In An Event – We will ONLY accept the advertised number. If no number is advertised, The World OCR League Admin Team will ask the Race Directors for a number.

The Number of Obstacles Failed! – This is down to your honesty. If you are suspected of cheating, or you suspect others of cheating, please see below for the correct process for disagreements. There will be more & more World OCR League Agents at events to monitor, observe & assist.

Sources of Timings that are allowed:

Official Timings – If the race is timed, then this is the ONLY time accepted

Off Your Own Device – If the race is not officially timed, then off your own device (watch/phone) with evidence. If you are using your own device, we will be using the OVERALL time, not the MOVING time. If you pause your device during an event every time you stop for example, you will get both a MOVING & an OVERALL TIME.

The World OCR League has a Strava “Club” and we ask that all Members join this, so we can confirm timings & distances should there be any discrepancies.

Should an event not have official timings, the WOCRL will collate the timings from the WOCRL Strava Club and work out the Overall, Gender and Age – Groups positions.

Your Overall Position, Gender & Age – Group Position – We can of course, ONLY accept official positions issued by the race directors

We want to create a balanced view on how difficult; how much of a challenge the races are …. but from the Participants point of view. So we have created The Race Challenge League, alongside the other Leagues, so you can see your performance when the going got really tough, & when you had a walk in the park! Ratings include:

  • The Main Weather Factor
  • The Main Factor Challenge Rating
  • The Obstacle Challenge Rating
  • The Obstacle Creativity Rating
  • The Terrain Challenge Rating
  • The Terrain Creativity Rating

6. The Points System

The WOCRL contains a number of calculations and points systems, some of which are unique & specific to Obstacle Course Racing:

  • OCR Speed – This is calculated as : Distance covered / by overall time taken /  hero rating
  • Fun Running Points – These are calculated as: Distance Ran + Obstacles Faced X Hero Rating
  • Trophy Hunters Points – These are calculated as: Overall + Gender + Age Group Position Points
  • Overall, Gender and Age Group Position Points – Simply put, if you come in the Top Thirty Overall, Age Group and/or Gender, you will receive points! 30 Points for 1st, 1 Point for 30th.

This is a live database & participants will be entering data constantly so your positions & points will fluctuate as results are added.

7. Disputes

Should you be accused or are making accusations towards another, they must first be sent to The World OCR League Admin Team at (hq@wocrl.org). You must provide full details & evidence, where possible.

Likely accusations include “claimed number of obstacles complete” and “timings off personal device”. Please ensure you have some evidence to support your accusation. If there is no evidence, there can be no ruling.

We will then approach the accused privately & present the evidence.

Once both sides have been heard, The World OCR League Admin Team Race Admin, will discuss internally & decide on further action or not.

This will be sent to both parties, independently.

The World OCR League Admin Team decision is final. The World OCR League Admin Team focus is to keeping the integrity of the sport, the fairness and sportsmanship it holds. Anyone seen not to be upholding this, will be removed from the WOCRL.

Should the accusation prove to be accurate:

  • First Offence – All Points from the Last Three Races will be removed.
  • Second Offence – Racer will be disqualified from the League for the remainder of the year. No refund will be available. Should the second offence occur in the last one month of the year, the disqualification will include the following year as well.
